August 2013 General Meeting
A great time was had by all at Westminster Towers. After a lovely lunch provided by Westminster, their Wellness Director, Jonathan Kimball, presented an informative talk about Women's Health. He also got all of us up to experience how our senses contribute to balance. After the meeting we were given a tour of the new Westminster Towers facility, including the fabulous apartments for independent seniors.
September 2013 General Meeting
Our Gifts & Talents
Our September meeting was held at the Gettys Art Center in downtown Rock Hill. Wonderful items such as crocheted scarves, knit ponchos, candle holders, aprons, tote bags, jewelry, and a fabulous flower arrangement - all handmade by of our members - were available for immediate sale. Proceeds from the sale will be given to three local charities voted upon by the members in the spring.
Our speaker was Ellie Stager, owner of The Cordial Churchman, whose studio is located at the Getty's Center. Elliie spoke to us about how she got into the business of designing bowties and showed us that a skill or talent can turn someone into an entrepreneur when they least expect it.
Our second speaker and Newcomer member, Sherri Turevon, demonstarted how to create a tablescape or themed table setting. All it takes is a little creativity. Newcomers will be using this idea at a future fund-raising event. See Sherri's adorable place settings below.
The New Member Brunch was held at the home of Newcomers President Joan Willsey on October 1, 2013. The Newcomers Board prepared wonderful goodies for the new members. The new members who attended learned more about the club and the board. Lots of talking, laughter and eating.
October 9, 2013 General Meeting
Our speaker for October was Paul Thompson, York County Extension Agent. Paul spoke to us about fall gardening. Members learned helpful tips to solve their gardening concerns after having lunch at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill.
November 13, 2013 General Meeting
The place ... the Applied Technology Center, right here in Rock Hill. What a fabulous program they have at this school! Mr. Don Gillman, principal of the school, interacted with the members to acquaint us with the school's program. After asking us what we thought was important for children to learn, he described how The Applied Technology Center addressed these goals. After he spoke, the members had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal prepared by the Culinary Arts students of the school... very yummy... turkey and ALL the trimmings! A great time was had by all as Newcomers welcomed the holiday season at The Brakefield at River Walk. Santa Claus arrived and members had individual and single photos taken while telling Santa about the items on their wish lists. Later, our Storyteller, Roger Ellingwood, shared amusing stories with the group.

March 12, 2014 General Meeting
At our March meeting members learned a great deal more about fun things to do in York County. Lisa Meadows, Executive Director, and Auvis Cole of the York County Visitors' Center shared lots of information about the resources they offer to both visitors and residents.
This month's meeting was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate and the ears. Held at Westminster Towers, members and guests enjoyed lunch at fabulous tablescapes designed by members. The beautiful voices of the Chamber Choir of Rock Hill High School filled the air. The best part was that a substantial amount of funds were raised for the Children's Attention Home.http://attentionhome.org

The Brakefield at River Walk was the beautiful setting for our installation luncheon. We had good food, a serious installation ceremony, a surprised Carol Fields Award winner and some good old fashioned fun courtesy of our incoming and outgoing VP's.
